Houghton Mifflin PRE-K (VPK Only) The Houghton Mifflin PRE-K Curriculum is based on sound research and is aligned with key critical Pre-K learning goals, including those defined by Early Reading First, Head Start, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and several state frameworks. Houghton Mifflin PRE-K incorporates: - An integrated curriculum - Standards-based instruction - Age appropriateness - Cultural and linguistic diversity - A balance of exploration and instruction - Oral language development - A focus on literacy - Early mathematics skills - Social and emotional development - Family involvement Wee Learn (2s and 3s) The Wee Learn Curriculum is center-based and provides the framework on which teachers can build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did-"in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52).
A child's growth and development is viewed as a process, not an event. Development begins when the child is conceived and continues throughout life. Spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and social development are equally important. Wee Learn incorporates: -Age approriateness -Social and emotional development -Connections to literacy -Bible stories and concepts -Small and large group opportunities -At home activities Extracurricular Activities Chapel All children will participate in chapel once a week. This is a time where the school congregates in the worship center to receive a bible lesson. Through create story telling, bibles verses, prayer, puppets, songs, and craft projects that will also be applied in their classroom, children will gain an understanding of biblical principles, and begin to develop a personal relationship with God. Computers The 3s and 4s will have the opportunity to go to Computers once a week. Children will learn basic computer skills and have activities that will correlate with what they are learning in the classroom. Music and Movement All ages will participate in our music and movement class once a week. This will give the children the opportunity to express themselves through singing and dancing. Children will lean great social and emotional skills, while developing gross motor skills. Playground Playground time is a great way for the children to participate in activities that specifically enhance their large motor skills. |
